INITIAL ACTION

• Isolate the spillage (This can be done by blocking any drains and preventing the oil from reaching any drainage systems or spreading away from the tank. For example put down absorbent materials: sand bags, drain cover’s. But be careful not to get the oil onto your clothing)

• Provide details for an Emergency Response Team to carry out an Emergency Pump Out:
• Telephone Number and Address with Postcode
• Tank Size and Capacity
• Amount of Fuel Lost (approx)
• Amount of Fuel Remaining in Tank (approx)

• Stem the Source of Oil (We have found the best method for this is to take a bar of solid soap and rub it into the damaged area. It really is the best way of temporarily stemming the flow.

• If oil has already entered the drainage system then immediately telephone the Environment Agency Emergency Hotline (0800 80 70 60) and advise them of the situation. (If the fuel/oil has not entered the drainage system and you do not believe there is a risk of it doing so then there is no requirement to contact the Environment Agency)

• Wait the Domestic Tank Services Ltd Emergency Response Team (Our fully trained technicians will help to advise you on the best course of action and secure the tank and area from further damage)
