WATER. Why Pay For It?
In 2006 the government introduced legislation giving the water companies the right to compulsorily meter ALL of its customers. With this in mind, we supply water tanks for a wide variety of uses including:
Potable (drinkable) water tanks, non-potable water reclamation projects for environmental sustainability, rainwater harvesting tanks, water recycling projects and water butts.
Fresh water is fast becoming a limited resource and one that is very much taken for granted. While many continents around the developing world struggle in there search for safe drinking water, we in the UK simply pour ours down the drain without giving it a second thought.
In the UK, pumping of water from rivers and underground springs is causing concern over environmental problems. And as seen in more recent years the run off from roofs and other surfaces during heavy rain can contribute to server flooding in high risk areas.
- A rainwater harvesting system could provide up to circa 80% of the water used for washing cloths and flushing toilets in a typical household of two persons.
- Rainwater is filtered by a collection unit which then excludes any leaf debris and other large particles.
- The remaining heavy particles then sink to the bottom of the tank and the lighter organic matter floats to the surface. The heavier particles accumulate at around 1 to 2 mm per year to form a beneficial biological layer.
- The overflow system is designed to remove the floating particles from the surface when the tank overflows.
- Water is extracted from the cleanest part of the tank just below the surface, using a floating filter.
- Water quality is maintained by the removal of the organic matter and by the action of incoming water which introduces oxygen. Water that is kept aerobic in this way does not become malodorous even when stored for long periods.
- Rainwater is naturally soft, so is ideal for washing machines, reducing the amount of detergent required and the build up of limescale. Being chlorine free it is also an excellent source for watering the garden and filling ponds.
